Three Billy Goats Grufflet, Winter 2011
Materials: Brass, copper, leather
Processes: forming, stamping, stack lamination soldering, marriage or metal, patination
Concept: This piece is inspired by my memories of the tale Three Billy Goats Gruff. This is a classic children’s tale in which three brother goats successfully scheme against a mean troll in order to cross his bridge and reach the green grass on the other side. As a child, my family and I would recite the line “who’s that trip trapping over my bridge” as we made noises stomping over a steel footbridge in my hometown. The piece is worn around the ankle and overtop of a boot. When stomping, the anklet pieces clink against each other. This ties together both the physical action and resulting audio association of my memory.
